Since 2006, the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival has hosted the Jecheon International Music & Film Academy (JIMFA), offering a unique opportunity to learn from Korea¡¯s top film directors and composers and to create original film music. JIMFA provides aspiring film music composers with high-level lectures and mentoring, as well as concrete and practical career counseling from active directors and composers, guiding the next generation of film music professionals. From 2006 to 2024, a total of 703 participants have completed the academy, and many graduates are now actively working in the field of film music production thanks to their connection with JIMFA. The upcoming 20th JIMFA will take place over six days and five nights, from Friday, September 5th to Wednesday, September 10th, 2025.
JIMFA goes beyond the one-off masterclasses commonly found at film festivals, offering a unique educational program that allows participants to experience the entire process of film music production. In addition to lectures by active film music composers, directors, and technical experts in sound and mixing, participants take part in a hands-on practicum where they compose music for an actual short film. Through this process, they not only gain firsthand experience of the full creative workflow, but also receive intensive mentoring from industry professionals-developing the practical skills and creative sensibilities required to become a film music composer.
JIMFA offers a variety of benefits to all participants. During the academy period, accommodation is provided for all attendees, and official badges for the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival are issued, granting access to various festival programs. In addition, daily lunch, dinner, and snacks are provided (excluding the first and last days), and participants are given a dedicated workspace to support an immersive creative environment. Furthermore, outstanding participants will be offered opportunities for continued creative development, including the chance to take part as music composers in the Busan Asian Film Academy (BAFA), alongside professional film music composers.
