The Mission

United Kingdom | 1986 | 125min | Color | Drama

Program Note

Mission, directed in 1986 by Roland Joffé of The Killing Fields (1984) and City of Joy (1992), it is one of his masterpieces that won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival that year. The film is set in the historical background of ¡°Guaraní War¡± in the Uruguay River in 1754, and has caused much controversy due to the distortion of orientalism and historical events. Nevertheless, Ennio Morricone's ¡°Gabriel's Oboe¡± is still impressive today, flowing in the magnificent scenery of tropical forests of South America and of the huge rivers and waterfalls flowing through the mountains. (HWANG Deok-ho)
