The film is Quentin Tarantino's second Western film following Django Unchained (2012). It is a successor to Dragon Gate Inn (1967) in that it is an action film that takes place in an isolated, non-movable space, and it follows the lineage of Murder on the Orient Express (1974) in that it only reveals the whole story in the end. The film begins with a long-take scene that looks at a wagon running in a vast covered-snow field from a distance, and the passage of four bars long composed by Ennio Morricone continues to repeat and raises the anxiety of the upcoming scenes of cruelty. (HWANG Deok-ho)
