Songs About Love turned out to be the biggest hit of the Gdynia Film Festival. A bittersweet, black-and-white film about a young musician searching for his path in life and a young waitress with a beautiful voice trying to build up the courage to perform. After a chance encounter, they fall in love and both face the same choice — between love and ambition. To choose love or success.
The film reminds me of Once and Begin Again. Robert, a musician that hasn't built his world and whose father is a famous actor/theater owner, stumbles upon the waitress Alicia's singing and gets hooked. Robert fails to make peace with his stubborn father as he continues to work on his music. Talented Alice has no ambition so she continues waiting to make her ends meet. It's overall black and white but some scenes cross cut the digital screen of smartphones-an unique multi-media expression. (Noh Kwangwoo)
