Is it possible to put on a busking performance of gugak or traditional Korean music on the Camino de Santiago? In summer 2018, a trio of Korean musicians known as Sangjaru or ‘Korean gypsies’ take to the streets and perform traditional Korean music over the course of one month. Their music is welcomed, and helps them make new friends. However, even as they create and perform music in the foreign country, they ponder upon various questions. What is the significance of traditions and how much freedom can gugak musicians practice? (NAM Sunwoo)
