David Byrne’s American Utopia
A man in a suit taps a model brain. Singing is with the fingers on the wrinkles, David Byrne, the vocalist of the 80's rock band Talking Heads. His gaze extends from government, television, racism, and democracy via various musical devices. He affirms the possibility of changes by pouring out lyrics like an essay, an editorial, a spell, as if from a podium. This film is seen as a musical, a concert, or sometimes even a stand-up comedy. It feels like an old-timer's spiritual ceremony wishing for the world's well-being and our connections. Director Spike Lee captured the live performance of the same name on Broadway in 2019.
