Maestro Ennio MORRICONE recently passed away at the age of 91.
Trained in classical music, MORRICONE began his career in film music with Sergio LEONE's A Fistful of Dollars (1964). His superb work in countless films—examples include For A Few Dollars More (1965), The Mission (1986), Days of Heaven (1978), Bugsy (1991), Love Affair (1994), Lolita (1997), Mission to Mars (2000), and The Hateful Eight (2015)—bears testament to the power of music that enriches the world of cinema both emotionally and semantically.
In commemoration of the vast landscape of imagination that he shared with us, JIMFF 2020 has prepared memorial screenings of some of his major works, including Cinema Paradiso (1988), The Mission (1986), The Legend of 1900 (1998), and Once Upon a Time in America (1984)—not to mention Quentin TARANTINO's The Hateful Eight (2015), which finally won him the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
