PROGRAM NOTE

In a small village in the countryside of Japan, a high school band falls sick from food poisoning and students with no relation to music whatsoever get drawn to join the band. Tomoko becomes the band leader and practices hard under the guidance of a teacher who also knows nothing about music. After many hardships they create a miracle of making magnificent music at a band competition. Three years after the story of boys challenging themselves to synchronized swimming in Shinobu Yaguchi takes on a story about almost drop out high school girls performing big band jazz. The film was shot on location at Tohuku and the whole group of students had to speak their lines with regional accent of Yamagata, which makes them even more endearing. The actresses were selected from auditions and received 4 months of special coaching in band music. The girls came to possess fine musical skills to be performing live in the film. The cute lively girls and up beat jazz, with fine performances from top supporting actors such as Naoto Takenaka, Kei Tani bring the audience a highly enjoyable film
