PROGRAM NOTE
Noo-Hin, a musical comedy about the hilarious hijinks of a country girl in the big city, is based on one of Thailand''s most beloved cartoon characters, Noo-Hin. Noo-Hin first made a splash in the original 3-strip comic series in 1992. She soon became the most beloved Thai cartoon character because of the extended version titled Noo-Hin Inter and a subsequent series of bestselling book-length editions. A terrible drought forces Noo-Hin to leave her hometown and search for a factory job in Bangkok, where she instead becomes a maid for the beautiful sisters Milk and Som-o. Noo-Hin loses her heart to the young and handsome Tong, who is already romantically involved with Milk. When Noo-Hin registers for a beauty pageant without Milk''s knowledge, things begin to get even crazier. Runglawan Tonahongsa, cast after a competitive open audition, successfully brings the vivid character of Noo-Hin from the 2-D page to the three-dimensional screen. Like Yongyoot Thongkongtoon''s < M.A.I.D.- Mission Almost Impossible Done> presented in last year''s Cine Symphony section, Noo-Hin''s Bangkok adventures allow us to glimpse the vibrancy of modern Thai society. Nonzee Nimibutr, a pioneer in Thai cinema, participated in the production. With its enjoyable animation sequences, < Noo-Hin: The Movie> gives us a chance to enjoy the irresistible appeal of Thai slapstick comedy.
