PROGRAM NOTE

Baek Ho-bin, who’s in the U.S. illegally, marries Korean woman, Jane to procure a green card. Ho-bin and Jane move in together and Jane, who’s been living an isolated life, **begin**s to love Ho-bin. After passing the INS’s home interview, Ho-bin demands divorce, but Jane refuses. In turn, Ho-bin tells Jane that his pregnant wife back home died, to lure Jane out and kill her. When two of them arrive in Death Valley, Jane confesses that his wife, tired of waiting, has had an abortion and married another man. Ho-bin offers Jane that they go to Las Vegas on a “divorce trip.”

Bae Chang-ho

After graduating from college, he began acquiring on the set experience working as an assistant director to director Lee Jang-ho. He made his debut with People of Ko-bang Neighborhood and went on to make Whale Hunting, Deep Blue Night (1984), Hwang Jin-I (1986), Our Joyful Young Days (1987), The Dream (1990), and Love Story (1996). He has an affinity for long takes and is recognized for the lyrical melodramatic beauty of his films. He is considered to be part of the Korean New Wave of the 1980s.
