PROGRAM NOTE

20,000 Days on Earth is an inventive, lyrical ode to creativity featuring a musician and cultural icon Nick Cave. The film fuses drama and reality by weaving the journey of a fictional day in the life of the rock star, with an intimate portrayal of his artistic process. It is the debut directorial feature film by innovative visual artists Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard and is set to an original score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. 20,000 Days on Earth is not a solemn, deferential portrait of an acclaimed musician. Instead, the directors were much more interested in probing universal themes including mortality, our time on earth and how we should spend that time.

DIRECTOR

Iain Forsyth

Forsyth and Pollard met while studying Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in London in the 1990s. Performance and music play significant roles in their practice, leading to notable collaborations, including a sound installation with Scott Walker at Sydney Opera House, a video art piece featuring Ben Drew’s first performance on camera and of course, their ongoing collaboration with Nick Cave. Forsyth & Pollard only work collaboratively, never alone, but with no formal division of labour.
