The film is set in a town that has a symphony orchestra, managed by authoritative and confident Paul Levald, who has conducted both the orchestra and his family affairs for years. Due to a dramatic event, Paul’s son-in-law Egon Rei must unexpectedly assume his duties. In addition to the baton, power and responsibility as well as the tensions in the orchestra, Egon inherits his father-in-law’s secrets and obligations from his complicated past. New lies are born out of old ones and, at some point, Egon realizes that the revelation of truth might cause a real chaos.
Family Lies is Manfred Vainokivi’s debut as a feature film director. He set up a film production company Filmivabrik Ltd. in 1998. He directed about 130 TV commercials and completed 3 short animated films.
Valentin Kuik graduated from the department of film directing at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, Russia, in 1975. His [The Revolt of the Sons] earned the first place in the Estonian novel competition in 1996. He has made 8 feature films and 21 documentaries.
