In 1347, Rienzi proclaims the establishment of the Roman Republic. Five centuries later, Wagner drew his inspiration from this true event to make a dark masterpiece about political corruption, ideals and treason. The film was shot during the rehearsals of Wagner’s opera French premiere. It tells the story of Rienzi, the revolution’s hero, seen by the direct witnesses of his political ambition.
Pierre-André Belin was born in 1970. He studied cinema at ESAV film school in Toulouse. He works as a producer of fiction and documentary. He is also the director of short movies like A Girl from Sarajevo(2007), The Journey of M. Ou Yang(2012) and Yamato(2014).
