Italy, 1948. Young Rocco is growing up in Calabria, until one day, his father Salvatore decides to leave to Belgium, to earn a lot of money by working in coal mines. Rocco becomes a migrant overnight. He wants to be like other youngsters, and have a purpose in life. Against his father’s wish, he seeks an escape through music and love. DIRECTOR

Stijn Coninx

Stijn Coninx graduated from the RITS film school in Brussels in the 80s and started his career directing a short film. His most important films are Hector, Koko Flanel, Daens, which were all-time box office hits in Belgium. Daens(1993) was nominated for the Best Foreign Language of Academy Awards. He won more than 50 prizes all over the world with his films.
